The third game of the league season saw our team playing Xaghra. Our opponents had lost their two opening games but had a new foreign player, and our own team were missing the influential Peter Anizoba through injury.

We started well with a very early goal. A flowing move from our box to theirs, finished with a great run and good finish from Aji Adesina. We doubled the lead midway through the first half via a well-executed free kick from Fernando Giarizzo. At half time, it seemed like the game would be relatively one-sided, but Xaghra came out with more fight in the second half.

The turning point perhaps was a missed chance. Another good move released Eric through on goal. He used his strength to hold off the defenders, but unfortunately shot over the bar. Xaghra got a little momentum after this and benefited from a dubious penalty award following a tackle in the box by Simon Sultana. The penalty was converted and we were in a close game at 2-1. Xaghra produced another good opportunity with a shot narrowly wide, but then we began to settle again and produced a few more chances while seeing out the game.

This was an important win, as we now have tough games ahead, starting next week with Xewkija. We look forward as always to seeing you there.
