Our boys were given a mouth-watering match in the U*BET FA Trophy as we were paired with Premier League opposition in the form of Qormi. Even on the back of five straight wins, few gave us any chance of troubling our famous opponents. This fact clearly did not influence the players as they matched Qormi in an excellent game at the Sirens ground in Malta.

From the first whistle, the blues played like Premier League players and worked hard to win balls and create chances. There was no indication that we were there to defend and maintain a respectable scoreline. We were there to try and win.

Throughout the 90 minutes both teams created chances and it was a surprise that the game remained 0-0. Both goalkeepers can be praised in this regard as they looked solid and made good saves when required.

The game moved into extra time and continued in the same vain until the last minute of the first period of 15 minutes. A good Qormi move found Roderick Bajada in space in the penalty area and he produced a good first touch and finish to give Simon Agius no chance in the SK goal.

Our boys did not drop their heads and continued to press in the second period of extra time, forcing two free kicks in promising positions. Unfortunately it was not to be and Qormi held on to move into the next round.

It was mixed emotions for our players after the game. They played a fantastic game and achieved more than anyone expected, but as the game went on, we believed we could win and cause what would have been a historic result.

We can go into the next game with our good run intact, and in fact the performances are getting better with each game. We now play Xewkija in the GFA Cup. The game is on Sunday and will be played at Sannat Stadium, kick-ff is at 1pm.
