Following our success against Xewkija, we were handed another tough game in the quarter final of the GFA Cup. Kercem had already won the First Division knockout competition this season, so it was clear that they would believe that they could repeat that success.

The game was well balanced in the first half, but there were few clear chances for either side. After the break, the blues almost took the lead immediately. A good move finished with a strong shot from the right flank by Ejofor Nkwocha, forcing a save from the Kercem keeper. Kercem found their rhythm following this scare and produced 2 very good scoring opportunities. Fortunately for us, the finishing was poor and the game remained in the balance.

With 5 minutes remaining, the game finally saw the necessary quality that had been missing from both sides. Joseph Vella was the architect with a strong run and superb cross from the left flank. Ejofor Nkwocha got in behind 3 defenders to finish from close range.

There was no repeat of the drama against Xewkija as our boys held the last 5 minutes with ease to record a 1-0 victory. We now return to league action and will face Nadur on Sunday, kick-off 3pm at Sannat Stadium. Please try to come and give your support, as this is a crucial game for the club.
