Following a disappointing defeat to Kercem, it was important to put in a good performance against the current champions and early leaders of the first division. Xewkija have strengthened in the summer with the addition of Daniel Bogdanovic and boast a very strong attacking line-up.

This attacking threat was evident in the very first minute as we started slowly and Bogdanovic pounced on a loose ball to open the scoring.

Following this shock, we started to play good football and were probably the better side for much of the first half. The reward came with the equaliser when a ball into their box was won by Adolfo Sanz Ortiz and he turned well and fired into the corner of the net.

The second half became an increasingly tough fight as both teams wanted to win the game. Xewkija enjoyed a spell of pressure early in the half but our defense was holding well. As the half wore on, the balance of play shifted in our favour and an excellent free kick from Adolpfo was only kept out by the woodwork. A second yellow for an unfair challenge meant a red card for Xewkija's new foreigner and with 10 men we were really in the ascendancy.

Unfortunately Bogdanovic once again showed his class as he finished well from a looping cross into our area. A second yellow for our skipper, Chris Sciortino, then made it very difficult to fight back. We still had further chances to score but it was not to be our day.

This was a good performance against a very strong Xewkija side. It is always tough to lose but the boys will hold their heads high this week and look forward to the next game against Sannat.
