Following an extended break, the league resumed this weekend and in the first game, we faced newly promoted Sannat Lions. With Chris Sciortino out suspended, Joel Xuereb started the game playing as an attacking midfielder.

The boys got off to the perfect start. In our very first attack, Adolfo Sanz Ortiz lost his marker and latched onto a long forward pass, finishing first time.

Adolfo has been in fine form recently and got his second after 23 minutes. A clever back heel from Nicholas Vella released him once again and he finished clinically for 2-0.

The second half was a close contest and Sannat had chances to get back into the game. They twice hit the outside of the woodwork and may consider themselves unlucky. But we also had further chances to score with Adolfo missing a very good chance with a header that went just wide. Oliver Farrugia also had a good chance to score. In a strong shooting position, he chose unselfishly to pass the ball when he probably could have taken it on himself.

With the final score of 2-0, we recorded a very important first clean sheet in the league. Our defensive record was not the best before this game so this shows that the hard work in training is paying off. Next up is St. Lawrence next weekend. We look forward to seeing you there.
