It has been a tough season so far and a long run without a win was ended in spectacular fashion on Sunday when our boys beat league leaders Nadur.

In the very first minute, an excellent through ball from Nicholas Vella released Sunday Baala who rounded the keeper and fired home for an early lead. Nadur responded with a period of pressure, but were unable to find the goal to restore parity. On 36 minutes they were punished again for poor defending, and again it was Sunday Baala who finished after a scramble in their penalty area.

There was still more drama before half time as Matthew Zammit reacted quickly to a loose ball to make it 3-0, but a minute later Cadu pulled one back for Nadur with a good long range strike.

The second half saw the Blues defend their position magnificently. Goalkeeper Branko Vrndic made a world class save to keep the score at 3-1, but was then involved in the one major talking point of the second half. Coming for a loose ball, he arrived a little late and caught the oncoming Nadur striker. The referee awarded a penalty, but controversially also showed Branko a red card. This seemed like a very harsh decision.

Eman Bugeja bravely took the goalkeeping gloves, and although unable to save the penalty, then went on to keep a clean sheet and help us record a famous 3-2 victory.

The league now splits and we will play 2 further rounds. This performance will give the whole club a much needed boost and we should be confident of finishing the season strongly now.
