Ghajnsielem are one of the favourites for the title this season after acquiring several strong players in the summer. In our first meeting with them, the game started well and we put pressure on them in the early stages. After the first 20 minutes our opponents started to have a good spell themselves and opened the scoring from the penalty spot on the 25th minute. A ball into the box was adjudged to have hit a hand and the referee gave the penalty, which was converted.

The boys responded well and were level within 4 minutes. The goal also came from the penalty spot although this time the decision for the referee was easy as Simon Sultana pulled back on Eric Chidi who was about to shoot from close range. Simon received a red card and David Monday converted the penalty.

With an extra man it should have been a great opportunity for our team to put more pressure on the blacks, but a counter-attack saw Ghajnsielem take the lead through Milos only 2 minutes after our leveller.

Unfortunately, we did not respond as well to going behind for the second time. We were unable to provide any serious threat and 21 minutes into the second half it was 3-1. Five minutes later the game was 10 v 10 as Eman Bugeja received a second yellow and had to take an early shower.

Ghajnsielem had the momentum now and scored a 4th after a sequence of defensive errors. However, the game did end with a bright spot after Steve Dimech entered the game and scored a nice goal, volleying over the goalkeeper to make the final score 4-2.

The games continue to be tough as we face reigning champions Xewkija on Sunday. Hope to see you all there.
